Jesus eradicated the illusion of separation when he said, "I am the vine; you are the branches." Thus, our adamant attempts to "grow closer to God" become futile when we realize our union with the Divine Source of all life.
We can't grow closer to something we are already one with, just as a branch cannot grow closer to its vine. Yet, as we become aware of our oneness with Source, we grow exponentially, and good fruit is produced simply by our being instead of by our doing.
“In Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
